Baked Mac & Cheese with Bacon Crumble is a rich casserole of tender elbow pasta enveloped in a creamy, sharp cheese sauce and topped with smoky bacon crumbs and a crisp breadcrumb layer. Ingredients

  • 1 pound elbow macaroni
  • 1 tablespoon and 0.50 teaspoon salt
  • 6 slice bacon
  • 4 tablespoon butter
  • 0.50 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cup milk
  • 2 cup shredded sharp cheddar
  • 1 cup shredded gruyere
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 6 slice bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 0.50 cup breadcrumbs

Steps

  1. Cook macaroni in salted boiling water until al dente; drain and set aside.
  2. In a skillet, cook bacon until crisp; drain on paper towels and crumble.
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter and whisk in flour; cook 1 minute to form a roux.
  4. Gradually whisk in milk and simmer until thickened; stir in cheddar, Gruyère, and seasonings.
  5. Combine cooked macaroni and cheese sauce in a greased baking dish; top with crumbled bacon and breadcrumbs.
  6. Bake uncovered at 375 F for 20 minutes until bubbly and golden; let rest 5 minutes before serving.
